How To Create a Video Using Still Images

Find me on:

It is a common misconception that you need video clips to create an engaging video. In this blog post, we will show you why you don't.

If you want to get started with video marketing, using still images can be a great soft start. You probably already have a bunch of photos laying around that you can use, but if not, there are a lot of great resources out there (*cough www.unsplash.com cough*). These can be a great foundation for a marketing video.

Here is an example of an (in our humble opinion) pretty engaging social media video based solely on stills + text:

What to think about when creating video using still images:
  • Consider your company's brand profile - specifically regarding text and colors. Is it possible to place text on the image in a way that will make it easy to read? For example, if your brand guidelines specify a light color for text, you should avoid choosing images with a lot of white/light colors in them.

  • Try choosing images that have the same style and/or color scheme to them. This will make the video more cohesive.

  • Make sure the images match your brand. Check your company's brand book if you have one, or consult with your brand manager if you're unsure 😊 Another tip is to use images that already exist in your company's catalogue, that way you can be sure that they are brand approved.
  • Last, but not least: remember that the visuals are secondary, and the message is most important. Choose images that you think fit with the message and adhere to your brand guidelines, but don't over-complicate it. If your message stands out, that is going to be what your audience takes away from the video.
